My Story
While I have hit official New Yorker status (in that I've lived in NYC for over a decade), I grew up in a small town in Lousiana. Dreams of performing on Broadway brought me to New York, and I was lucky enough to fulfill that dream, performing in the original Broadway musical, Anastasia, for multiple years. COVID-19, which upended all of our lives in some way, detoured my performance career and made me ponder a question I'd never asked before, "What would I do if I didn't perform?" Luckily, I was in therapy at the time, which provided comfort, clarity, and the answer to this question.
Theatre to therapy may not seem like the most obvious pipeline, but I have found that the two have many similarities. They are both concerned with what it means to be human, both require empathy and soft skills, and both are all about story. In theatre, I tell stories, and in therapy, I hold stories. These two paths have guided me to spotlights and shadows, the inward and the outward, and I love holding and exploring these paradoxes in my life and the lives of my clients.
